Lifting hardware on a topside deck, a subsea load-out skid, or a desalination plant maintenance lift cannot rust mid-shift. Carbon steel eye bolts (the most common 1030 forged grade) lose their working load limit fast in salt-spray service, and 316 stainless surface-pits in chloride-rich brine. Where the lift is recurring and the environment is corrosive, super duplex eye bolts in Ferralium 255 (UNS S32550) hold the rated WLL across the asset life. The forging route per ASME B18.15 develops a continuous grain flow around the eye, doubling the fatigue limit compared with a machined-from-bar equivalent. Plain eye bolts are rated for axial pull only. A side-load on a plain eye bolt at 45° derates the WLL to 30 percent of the axial value, and at 90° (horizontal pull) the eye bolt should not be used at all. Shouldered eye bolts develop the rated WLL up to 45° from axial when the shoulder is fully seated against the bearing surface; below 45° the bolt is treated as plain. For repeated angled lifts specify the swivel hoist ring, which retains full WLL at any pivot angle and rotates 360° about the screw axis.
Per-heat EN 10204 type 3.2 MTC: chemistry per ASTM A479, mechanical properties per ASTM E8 and A370, hardness traverse, ferrite-content per ASTM E562, NACE MR0175 conformance, proof-load test record per ASME B18.15 paragraph 9 (each piece individually proof-loaded to twice the WLL with permanent set tolerance). NORSOK M-650 QTR and PED 2014/68/EC AD 2000 W2/W7/W10 conformance available on request.
